Writing is a wonderful adventure. With a pen’s stroke, we create new worlds, disseminate information, and help people find hope in Jesus. But what happens if you ask someone to critique your hard work?

I remember when someone critiqued my work for the first time. They told me I should consider something else. I needed serious work and should give up and toss in the towel on my dream.

That bad advice stopped me from writing for several years. I’d start and stop, never having confidence, until I handed the same project to a random stranger on the internet. They gave me valuable advice that I use to this day. It improved my craft.

It’s healthy to seek positive critique for your work. In fact, it can elevate your writing to greater levels; answering questions, giving brilliant advice, and so much more. I learned from this individual the valuable lesson of POV shifting in a scene.

Critiques are simply one person’s opinion on your work, not your ability to write, or even dream. As a writer, you choose to either allow someone’s opinion, whether good or bad, to influence your writing. Remember, God has called you to write your story. It’s up to you to determine the path you take.

Writing for Christ,
