MCWG Resources

Writing is a ton of fun, but often we find ourselves looking for resources to take our writing and career to the next level. The following is a list of networks and resources to help you find community and tools to write the story God’s placed on your heart. The MCWG recommends the following resources.

Christian Indie Publisher’s Association (CIPA)

Christian Indie Publishing Association (CIPA) was created in 2004 to provide independently published authors, small publishers, and traditionally published authors published by small presses with resources to publish professionally and market effectively. Learning about the Christian publishing industry is challenging. Why do it alone when you can join this Christian publishing association to provide the support you need? The culmination of the CIPA discounts, educational materials, and marketing tools makes your publishing experience easier and more profitable.

Author Coaching

Jason Sisam is an author coach who has helped authors craft, produce, and publish their books. He is the current president of the Minnesota Christian Writers Guild, has a author mindset and coaching site, as well as helps individuals with their finances as a financial advisor, helping develop goals, plans, estate and more. Jason has published 8 books.

INGRAMspark

IngramSpark is a powerful online service for indie authors that provides the same quality print and distribution services enjoyed by the large brick and mortar publishers. Once you have a formatted book, IngramSpark makes it possible to share with retail sites like Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and more including readers, over 39,000 booksellers, and librarians, and more than 70 online retailers. IngramSpark will print, ship, and distribute your book.

Author Media w/ Thomas Umstattd Jr.

Author Media empowers writers to build professional platforms and boost book sales through practical training. They offer the long-running Novel Marketing podcast, expert-led courses, mastermind groups, and a dedicated social community, helping authors create “writing worth talking about” and succeed.

Free Writer’s Tools

Jason Sisam has created three powerful writer’s tools. If you’re looking to find the perfect name for a character for your next novel, you can now generate up to 10 names. Is your book nearly ready but you need a barcode for your book cover? There’s an ISBN barcode generator – it’ll save you $25 per barcode when you purchase an ISBN. Also, there’s a distraction-free writer’s tool, where you can write on the go, in a distraction-free environment, and then you can email a copy to yourself, or simply download for later use in your favorite writer’s software.

Reedsy: The Self-Publishing Marketplace

Reedsy is a premier marketplace connecting independent authors with vetted publishing professionals, including editors, designers, and marketers. The platform also offers free production tools, such as a professional book editor and educational resources. It empowers writers to create high-quality, self-published books by providing access to industry-level expertise and formatting software.

Freewrite: The Distraction-Free Writing Tool

Freewrite specializes in distraction-free writing tools designed to help authors reach a “flow state.” Their devices, including the Smart Typewriter and Traveler, feature mechanical keyboards and E Ink screens. By removing browsers and notifications while offering automatic cloud syncing, they empower writers to focus entirely on drafting without digital interruptions.
